PEOPLE SAY:
“Shilpi was very dedicated and patient with our class. She broke down the terms and strategies into easily digestible concepts. When we had difficulty with a vocab term or a math equation she would take her time, often going back to re-explain things, and giving us 2-3 techniques to solve problems. Definitely a great Kaplan resource!” — Kaplan GRE Student
“Shilpi was extremely pleasant and approachable. I felt like I could always talk to her. I appreciate her advice to me concerning the GRE and the grad school application. She seemed to care about the concerns of the entire class.” — Kaplan GRE student
“Thank you for taking the time to teach our class about gentrification in the Shaw, Ledroit park, and Bloomingdale neighborhoods. We found your talk with us very interesting because of the fact that you took your time to talk to people also to learn about their background. We loved how you learned from their past experiences living in those neighborhoods. We also like how the words in your book came straight from the people you talked to. We loved learning about how Leroy was determined to help the neighborhood, even though not many people gave him credit for what he did. Thank you for letting the history of these neighborhood be known. Your book and our talk really helped understand a lot more about gentrification and helped us in the creation of our book award. Thank you for taking the time to visit our class.” — The CHDS 5th grade class
“From conception to execution, Shilpi was a thoughtful partner, prioritizing the experiences of the participants and centering the voices of narrators from her oral history, Shaw, LeDroit Park & Bloomingdale in Washington, D.C. Along the route she mapped, participants took photos comparing the current built environment to images from the past. The resulting program was one of the most powerful I’ve overseen in my time at the DC History Center—a testament to Shilpi’s role in planning.” M.O., Program Manager, DC History Center
